Antarctica: prep 10 Feb 2025

Not sure how I can prep for this but am opening the blog again for starters:

Various friends/family have offered to lend me so much: equipment, books, clothing, large suitcases (three different offers!). People are so kind. And gifts - a book on icy worlds, an Antarctic calendar, navigation aids. I even find myself eyeing my own possessions in terms of what 'deserves' to go. The beautiful retirement compass - yes! My various warm fleeces - not allowed because of shed-risk. A novel set in Georgia (the Caucasus not the US) - sounds like a good bet. But which warm hat? There are five in the large suitcase right now, but only one can stay.

I practise taking landscape pictures,

although it's a struggle to load them up... (thanks Anish Kapoor for this World Turned Upside Down).

I need to learn to make little films, I download the various recommended apps: Global Cloud Survey, eBird, iNaturalist (I know that one), Marine Dump - and so on.

Perhaps most difficult will be to find and keep the space to take in absorb create|regurgitate - the schedule on offer seems packed, so wish me luck with that....
